Edd wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 7:05 am welcome Ludwig! Yes, Ares' post was a good one, it's a shame that the images have disappeared. add the links to the first post anyway ;)

Fortunately, his tutorial is available on OH Manual or on the git wiki:
https://github.com/Lab0ne/openholdembot ... eatablemap

I will continue working on and update it. There is some minor things to add and some updates as his tutorial dates a little.

Great contribution from Ruber!

referring to the manual is always the first thing to do, but for example those who come here from crack shops with non-working maps, in the link it would be written that they use maps that cannot be used with oh official because they are encrypted, if anyone asks questions about commercial profiles, in that link it would say that we do not support it, if anyone asks what pXactive is, in that link there would be the link to Ares's post and the manual ecc

practically all these things that have been said many times, instead of repeating them again have a link to refer people which still refers to the manual but also contains other more in-depth links, such as Ares' post on the map, the THF post on open rights source, the tutorial to compile OH or the tutorial for the DLL etc.

therefore make it clearly visible at the beginning of each section of the forum as well as referring people there, one place that contains all the important things that someone who knows nothing about OH should know as soon as he gets here :)
Hey Edd,

I've added point number 6 to include the resources you mentioned. What do you think? Do you think more links or FAQs should be included?

Thanks for the help! =)

Agreed, that sounds good!

I will gather a series of relevant links so they are easily accessible from this guide, and we can direct the newbies to them! :-D

Hey Edd, good idea!

Although I have doubts, most of the topics you mentioned are already detailed in the manual. My initial idea was to keep these first instructions simple to avoid overwhelming the newbie; if they follow the detailed instructions, they'll read the manual and find the information themselves.

Do you think it would be better to change the focus of the guide? Or is there a particular topic you mentioned that is especially relevant and should be included in this guide to be read before accessing the manual?

I normally fixed the priviledge for this section to edit posts, this was because you post it first on the reserved topic 'OpenHoldem101' for regulars so I moved it to the common “Welcome to the OpenHoldem forums”, can you confirm if it is fixed now?

By the way, I promoted you to the Regular members, and wish you the welcome! :-D
Oh, thanks mudrox!

Now I can edit it without problems. And thanks for the promotion! :-D

topic changed to " ANNOUNCEMENTS " for easy detection by newbie

Maybe you can add the appropriate link for this " Reporting Errors and Contributions " by linking bug section?
Done!

Thanks! =)

Ok, I'm not sure why I can't edit my posts in this section of the forum!

As soon as I can, I'll add everything you've mentioned. Newbies will no longer have excuses! 😎

There was the excellent tutorial "How to do a tablemap" from Ares but all images gone: viewtopic.php?t=6547
Maybe we could redo it?

Re: Quick Start Guide for New OpenHoldem Users

It seems like a good idea, adding a message that link here at the beginning of all the sections of the forum, in particular the bug section, the tablemap section and OH 101, but maybe it's fine in all the others too.

we then modify this post to also add the question that no one will sell a bot that really wins, that the worst enemy is you and greed, the importance of human behavior, open source rights, stealth etc. everything that concerns the correct way to start with OH and that the crack shops are assoles :)

Quick Start Guide for New OpenHoldem Users

Welcome to MiM, the OH User Community

Welcome! We are delighted that you have joined us in this exciting open-source project dedicated to the development of poker bots. Before you begin, there are a few important things you need to know to make the most of your experience here.

1. Read the OpenHoldem and OpenPPL Manuals

The OpenHoldem Manual is the fundamental basis for understanding how our software works. It contains all the necessary information about creating TableMaps (TMs) and the OHScript scripting language. Similarly, the OpenPPL Manual is a comprehensive guide to this language. We highly recommend that you read and reread them to fully assimilate their content.

2. Documentation and Resources
  • OpenHoldem Download Link: https://github.com/Lab0ne/openholdembot/releases
  • OpenHoldem and OpenPPL Manuals: Once you have downloaded the software and decompressed it into a folder, you will find the manuals in the path Open Holdem\documents\HelpFiles.
  • OpenHoldem Wiki: https://github.com/Lab0ne/openholdembot/wiki
  • Support Forums: Here on MiM, you will find help and support from other experienced community members. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the various sections of the forum. However, remember that it is important to review the forum and available documentation before asking questions.
3. Forum Participation

When participating in the forum, follow these guidelines to keep the community organized and useful for everyone:
  • Search: Before asking a question, use the forum's search function. It is likely that your question has already been answered.
  • Detailed Question: If you decide to ask a question, provide all necessary details. This includes what you are trying to achieve, the steps you have followed, and the specific problems you have encountered. In most cases, you will also need the TM, RFs (Replay Frames), log file, or some section of your profile's logic to get assistance.
  • Do Not Request "Out of the Box" (OOTB) Solutions: Our forum is not intended to provide ready-to-use TableMaps or profiles. The essence of OpenHoldem is for you to learn how to create your own resources.
  • Respect and Collaboration: Always maintain a respectful and collaborative tone. Remember that we are all here to learn and help each other.
4. Learning and Development

Developing poker bots and creating TableMaps requires time and dedication. Do not get discouraged if you encounter difficulties at first; it is part of the learning process. Here are some tips:
  • Practice: Consistent practice will help you become familiar with the tools and scripting language.
  • Collaborate: Do not hesitate to collaborate and share your progress with other community members. Feedback is invaluable.
  • Be Patient and Persistent: Mastering OpenHoldem takes time. Be patient with yourself and persist in your efforts.
5. Reporting Errors and Contributions

If you find errors or have suggestions for improving OpenHoldem, we encourage you to report them. Your contribution is valuable for the continuous growth and improvement of the project. Head over to the Bugs and Problems or OH Suggestions section as appropriate, and remember to read the specific rules of each section before making your post.

6. Important Links and Common Questions

To help newcomers get started, we have compiled an index of important links and common questions. These links will direct you to essential information that has been discussed many times in the forum. Refer to this section first before asking questions, as it covers many frequent topics and provides in-depth resources.

Essential Links:

- THE MANUAL
- Your open-source-rights, simply explained
- Important - How to get a winning bot
- How do I make a map
- [FORUM RULE] No cracks!
- Creating a table map on a single machine set-up...
- Compiling user DLL for dummies...

Common Questions:
- Non-working Maps: Maps from crack shops are encrypted and cannot be used with official OpenHoldem.
- Commercial Profiles: We do not support commercial profiles.

We recommend that you bookmark this section and review it regularly as it will be updated with new and relevant information.

Conclusion

We hope this guide helps you start your journey with OpenHoldem. The community is here to support you, but remember that learning and development depend largely on your effort and dedication. Good luck and enjoy this exciting adventure!
